»The Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum 2011

The Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum which will focus on the challenges for Greece, the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea Regions relating to cruise shipping, the yachting industry and passenger shipping. The Forum will be held 21-22 June, 2011 at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens, Greece.
There’s great potential for sea tourism in these regions whether it’s for investment opportunities or new infrastructure projects and we believe that the two day event will provide significant information and address key factors for promoting and supporting development of the above mentioned sectors.

Over the past 40 years the industry has grown, and today a large number of marinas dot the coastline between Istanbul and Antalya. These provide supplies, easy access to the shore at major resorts and safe harbours, as well as often becoming local entertainment venues in themselves.

Turkey has more coastline than any other Mediterranean country - some 8400 kilometers. There are so many bays and coves; one can almost always pick a pretty anchorage within minutes of deciding to drop the anchor. Marinas are generally first class with technical support and repair and haul-out facilities. Turkey's most established marinas on the southern Aegean and Mediterranean coasts at Izmir, Cesme, Kusadasi, Bodrum, Marmaris, Gocek, Fethiye and Antalya. There are many pretty small harbours, such as Kalkan, where one can Med-moor to a quay or jetty with electricity and water. Overnight fees are less than half those of first class marinas.

Most cruising yachts sail in the southwest of the country, along the Mediterranean coast and the Aegean Sea, although the Sea of Marmara is also worth exploring and a sail through the heart of Istanbul is an exhilarating experience.

In these well- equipped harbours, yachtsmen can find the services and provisions they require. Antalya, Bodrum Dalaman, Izmir and Istanbul airports provide quick links to all of Turkey's marinas. After an easy flight you can board your yacht and sail off all within a day.

Fuel - Diesel is difficult to obtain as tanker lorries can no longer supply small ports. New regulations require tankers to have a specific (and expensive) license to supply yachts, as opposed to gulets. Plan fuelling stops well ahead and carry spare cans
